Taking Care of Your Silver Piece :

" Consecrated Silver Craft "  Silver Talismans are made of fine silver and They should be handled with care. Below are some tips on taking care of Your chosen piece,

along with what not to do, to ensure longevity of Your Talisman :

       - Take off Your silver piece while bathing/showering in water infused with detergents

which contain chemicals like sulfates and other "nasty" ingredients such as parabens,

artificial fragrances. etc.- these can damage the piece, both silver and stone.

Heat, such as hot water is another factor which can damage your piece,

       both silver and stone

-Be sure your silver piece is safely attached to a silver chain if you are taking a ceremonial

or cleansing swim/soak in the sea, ocean, river, well, brook or lake. Bumping on rocks may

damage it, and you may loose it if current or waves are strong - so make sure it is safely

attached and on a shorter chain. (this works for rings and brooches too)

-Take off  Your silver piece if You are a restless sleeper and toss and turn a lot in Your sleep :

You may damage Your piece and You can hurt Yourself. If You sleep calmly or on Your

back, wearing Your piece is quite safe, however, if not and You do not wish to separate

from Your piece while sleeping - place it under Your pillow - or on a crystal charging

plate by Your bed - this will additionally rejuvenate Your Talisman too.

-Take off Your silver piece while doing activities which may damage it (take off

Your ring/armband/bracelet while doing the dishes, or take off Your silver pendant while

           jumping or doing hard workout.)

Avoid : - placing Your silver piece on or near heat, flame, ice.

                    - rubbing or soaking Your silver piece with or in alcohol - it will damage it.

                    - placing or putting Your silver piece in salt - it may damage it.

-dropping, bumping, rattling, banging, shaking or dropping Your silver piece -

( this is fine silver, not steel, and should be handled with care.)
                   - charging Your silver piece on direct sunlight

( this is Moon Silver -it should be charged with  Moonlight - direct sunlight and

heat can damage both silver and gems)

-cleaning or cleansing Your silver piece with harsh chemicals, detergents, salts and

"nasty ingredients" - You will damage and drain Your Talisman

Cleaning Your Silver Talisman :

Consecrated Silver Craft Talismans are made of fine silver and may naturally tarnish with time.

When silver is exposed to sulfur-containing gases in the air, it discolours and then darkens as it reacts with the gas to form a surface layer of tarnish. This process is called tarnishing.

The rate that silver tarnishes depends on the concentration of sulfur-containing gases (such as hydrogen sulfide) in the air.

Your skin can also tarnish or whiten Your silver piece : Changes in body chemistry can effect the tarnish rate on sterling silver jewelry. Amino Acids in the perspiration contain sulfur or sulfides and the presence of sulfur or sulfides accelerates the rate of tarnish. Changes in hormone balance during adolescence or change of life in women has been known to change the bodies chemistry. Medications or chemotherapy can also effect the body chemistry. Some cosmetics and skin lotions can also accelerate tarnishing of silver.

Tarnish can be removed with proper cleansing and  polishing, which can be done at home.

There are a number of methods to remove built-up tarnish from your silver jewelry, but most safe and inexpensive is Baking Soda method :

Baking Soda and Aluminum Foil Bath

Add boiling water and baking soda to a bowl layered with aluminum foil. Remove after 1-3 minutes, rinse under cool water and rub dry with a soft cloth.
This process causes a chemical reaction that removes tarnish from the silver within second or minutes.

Results :
You can see the process happening and the dark, discolored piece of jewelry changing back to its original state  - this will affect the whole piece however, even decorative dark patches.

KEEP IN MIND : that most of Consecrated Silver Craft pieces have decorative, tarnished, dark patches which give that archaic, "old" look. Baking Soda and Aluminum Foil Bath may remove these too. If You wish for Your piece to keep that old, archaic look, You may want to try one of these 2 simple cleaning methods :

If Your Silver piece has decorative tarnish, You may rather choose these "on spot methods" :

1. Take a cotton pad and wet it, put a bit of baking soda and clean parts You wish to clean . Rinse that piece of jewelry in cold water and continue to use.

2. Take a bit of whitening toothpaste, wet Your piece with water and gently rub the toothpaste on parts You wish to clean . Rinse that piece of jewelry in cold water and continue to use.
